Tournament Director Report
Discussion was held about the Lake Chelan tournament and that there is no camping available. It was mentioned that Wenatchee is only about a ˝ hour away. The Club voted and Lake Chelan would remain on the schedule for August tournament.
Old Business
The Club discussed the Lake Sammamish tournament. We had 35 boats and we had great weather.
- 1st place 14.69 lbs. – Ron Hobbs
- 2nd place 11.15
- Big fish – Ron Hobbs
There were no negatives remarks made at the tournament. Ron did extremely well and smooth as MC. Also the weigh in was quick compared to other tournaments others had attended. The only negative thing was 7 fish were dead at weigh in and we had to pay our $600 twice for second place due to an error in calculating pay outs.
The Club discussed areas we could do different:
- Do raffles before handing out awards.
- Create a schedule after weigh in when to do the raffle and award presentation.
- Have some type of PA system, i.e. bull horn.
- Start planning next year in September or October.
- Decide if we want to hold the tournament on Sammamish.
- If we have more time to plan, we can get more prizes and sponsors and use sponsor money for more than just Big Fish pot.
- Have a prize for the smallest fish.
- Entry fees of those who did not weigh in fish, throw names in hat and give like $100.
- Jon heard from with Gary Stiles that it was the great tournament. Coffee, donuts, fizzing fish was a great idea and he’ll use it the Banks tournaments.
- Tracy suggested a big camping tent to cook breakfast.
- Priester said he could donate $1,000 if the winner was in a Skeeter boat.
- It would be good if we could get Joe Schangel from KJR do a spot on his radio fishing show on Saturday mornings.
- Instead of having cash for prizes and having to count and recount it, make one bank deposit and to pre-write checks for prizes with the name left blank. This would prevent errors.
- There was some discussion that we paid too large amount for first place. Possibly we should determine the percentage for each prize to be paid on the amount available for prize money. For example, a 30-boat field at $125 per boat is $3,750. Total pay back to participants $3,750 x 80% = $3,000.
- 1st – 40% x $3,000 = $1,200
- 2nd – 25% 750
- 3rd – 15% 450
- 4th – 10% 300
- 5th – 5% 150
- 6th – 3% 90
- 7th - 2% 60
A percentage set in advance would make it easy to prepare checks for any number of boats.
- Consider back up for lighting, power supply and scales.
- Bring rubber bands or paper clips to facilitate counting cash easily. Also deposit slips if bank deposit to be made.
- Bring string or rope to attach signs to vehicle, as duct tape does not work well.
- Prepare a map to launch site to send with announcement of tournament to other clubs.
- Some discussion of preparing breakfast for all participants. Do a cost analysis to see about feasibility. Also need cover to protect from weather.
- Is there a possibility of having self-contained campers stay in park over night with emphasis on pre setup. This would avoid a long drive for some at 3 a.m. to help set up.
- Have two different groups of people perform an independent check on places with finish to prevent errors.
- Have a spreadsheet at check in with separate columns for each amount of payment so that when registration ends, the columns can be totaled for each payment. This will save time.
The Club discussed the Christmas party and agreed not to do anything to make up for last December. Club felt we need to plan it early, pick a spot and book it now. John made a motion and Holly seconded to have this year’s Christmas party at Porta La Varta on Saturday, December 1.
New Business
The Club agreed to have a Lure Making Party at Jim Sumich’s house on Saturday, March 17 at 10:00.
Jon reported we needed to send a representative to the March 17 Federation meeting. Jon said he would send an email asking for volunteers and if no one volunteered then he would attend.
Jon further reported that there was a planning meeting for the Casting for Kids at the Lakewood Parks office in case any one wanted to attend.
Big Fish
Lamar stated that the monthly Big Fish pot starts this month.
Fishing Reports
Members who visited El Salto reported on their experience.
Ron reported that he and his dad pre-fished on the Delta and caught about 30 fish a day the largest from 9 to 12 lbs.
